04 Jun $5M Grant App to Council
The June 10, 2014 City Council meeting at 9:00 am agenda shows presentation of the $5 million grant application for Venice Municipal Airport improvements to Council.
The grant application is for the rehabilitation of Taxiways Alpha and Charlie, and the design phase of the Runway 13/31 relocation project. The relocation project dates back to a controversial time in the airport’s existence, where community pressure drove the city’s decision to remove 24 homes from the Runway Protection Zone.
If approved, the grant will be submitted to the FAA for review. Federally funded airport improvement grants come from aviation fuel and airline ticket taxes. Additional funds, if needed, are provided by the Airport’s own enterprise fund.
