15 Jan Korea Fighter Pilot looking for his FL training class after 70 years
On one of my trips around the patch, I happen to stop by Sebring for lunch. While there I met a gentleman and his wife, Mr and Mrs Palle Bay, visiting from Denmark with a wonderful story!
He was a member of the class of ’52 known as the Swivel Heads receiving training at Bartow during the Korean conflict. He is Danish and took his training back to Denmark to train others.
Being polite yet enthusiastic he patiently waited until I finished lunch and we sat down in the lounge for a chat. He was on a US tour of places that he has been as a young Danish military aviator. I was so impressed at how fresh everything was for him after over 70 years! I guess our pilot training becomes so ingrained that we never forget!
He is a private man, but I asked if I could share his pictures and a brief story with the VASI membership and he agreed. I am sure that these photo’s will bring back fond memories for others as well. If you know of him or know vets who may have trained with that class please pass this along to them, I am sure that Palle will be delighted.
