KVNC-Lunch Bunch DEC 5-2024

Well, Well, Well, After the fiasco of flying to a “Closed” restaurant at LaBelle last weekend, how could we top that???

TODAY, Some flew to the “OLD FARTS DESTINATION”!!!!

29 showed up for the 10am Briefing by Yellow Cub Dave! If you were at the EAA Christmas Party, you know he briefs better than he sings!! See video at bottom. Great weather over SouthWest FLA, Clear and a Million!! With 29 pilots a decision was made to split the group! Half to KGIF WinterHaven and Half to KSEF Sebring! No problem. Weather and Notams checked, all good. What went wrong????

NOBODY called to check!!  Our guys arrived at KGIF to find 50-60 planes spread around the airport and the restaurant jammed! Long line for the “Old Farts Buffet”!! Seems Cirrus Ernie, Cessna Rod & June and Johnny Arrow stuck it out, Archer Gabe diverted to Arcadia for fuel, Cardinal Steve returned to KVNC and ate lunch at BruBurgers!!!  Meanwhile Sebring was OK, not crowded, but the waitress wasn’t happy with us, a call ahead would be nice! No problem today, but we gotta do better!! 

Then Chief Yellow Cub briefed us on improper/unnecessary radio calls. Too many examples to list, you’ve heard them all! Long winded calls, not well thought out, lots of “uhhhhs”, and too much information. Clear, concise calls are one of the keys to safety! 

Guests today: Chopper Frank brought another “First Timer,” Bob, who does electronics for movies, productions, and Danny, Frank’s repeat offender!! RV Randy Stisser brought his PickelBall partner Kevin Engelke. Kevin was recently elected to the Venice City Council. Great to have him meet us and observe the operation at KVNC. Seems as a team these two have never won a PickelBall game!!!
