The following was forwarded to us by a former VASI member who enjoyed trips to Staniel. This popular resort destination airport in the Bahamas was closed earlier this year due to deteriorating runway conditions. To date, no efforts have been made to rehabilitate or repave the field. This appeal to sign a petition to resume operations has made its way around aviation circles.

If you’ve been to Staniel Cay, you know how vital the airstrip is to this community. The airstrip was closed by the Bahamian government over 4 months ago, and nothing has been done to remedy this dire situation. Individuals and businesses continue to make appeals to the government but to no avail. No resurfacing has begun and no equipment or materials have landed on Staniel Cay. No plan of action has even been decided upon. By signing this petition you can lend your support to the Staniel Cay community’s effort to get the airstrip operating again!
